F2 Hungary: Schumacher takes first F2 victory with sprint race win

F2 rookie Schumacher, who started the race from pole, managed his lead brilliantly from Matsushita up until the last 10 laps when the Japanese driver began to increase the pressure on his Prema Racing rival.

The gap fluctuated as Matsushita appeared to cool his tyres and then close back in on his rival, harrying Schumacher right up until the last lap, but the son of seven-time F1 champion Michael Schumacher held on for victory.

With 12 laps to go, Sergio Sette Camara had made lunge on Matsushita to try and take second, but that only inspired the Carlin driver to move ahead and Sette Camara lacked the grip to complete the move.

He then fell into the clutches of MP Motorsport driver Jordan King in the last 10 laps, but managed to hold position and seal the podium for DAMS.

King held on to take fourth, ahead of Renault junior Jack Aitken who completed a double points score for the weekend to aid his title bid.

In a key move in the championship battle, ART Grand Prix's Nyck de Vries jumped his closest title rival Nicholas Latifi - who won the Saturday feature race to close the gap between the, - and took sixth ahead of Latifi in seventh.

Latifi closed right in de Vries at the end of the race, but could not find a way back past.

Virtuosi Racing's Luca Ghiotto was swamped at the start from fourth on the grid, but made a late move on Nikita Mazepin to recover to eighth, and one corner later Ferrari junior Callum Ilott passed Mazepin to take ninth.

But Ghiotto's Virtuosi team-mate Guan Yu Zhou - a Renault junior driver - jumped Ilott late on to take that place at the finish, which left Ilott to round out the top 10.
