Gregor Grant: Ferrari

The entire Ferrari concern has been awarded a Gregor Grant award for technical excellence at the 2003 AUTOSPORT Awards. The prize was accepted by three key members of the marque's Formula 1 squad, technical chiefs Ross Brawn and Rory Byrne, as well as engine designer Paolo Martinelli

"It's been a very difficult year," said Brawn. "But a team shows its strength in adversity. We had three fairly straightforward years without that sort of challenge, but we came through. The last three or four races of 2003 really showed the strength of the team."

The team had a historic year in F1, winning the Constructors' Championship for the fifth straight season. It was Ferrari's 13th manufacturers title. A particular technical highlight was the breaking of the 22-year-old record for the fastest Grand Prix. Michael Schumacher did the trick in the Italian Grand Prix this year.

Michael Schumacher, the team's number one driver, has made a habit of thanking every single person in the Ferrari set-up, and never more so than after he sealed the drivers' and constructors' championships for the team at this year's Japanese Grand Prix.

This award aims to do the same by honouring the entire Ferrari concern. The marque has made a tremendous contribution to motorsport at many levels.
