Vallelunga Superstars: Andrea Larini victorious in season finale

Despite having not raced since the third round back in June, and this being his first meeting in an Audi Sport Italia RS5, Larini was on the pace from the outset in race two.

Starting fifth, he was in second place by the end of the second lap, and quickly set about hunting down early leader Francesco Sini (Solaris Chevrolet).

At the 15-minute mark Larini made his first attempt at the lead with a bold lunge into the hairpin.

The move caused both he and Sini to run wide, allowing newly-crowned champion Gianni Morbidelli to sneak in front of both.

Five minutes later Larini had a second shot at the lead at the hairpin, this time passing Morbidelli cleanly. Once in front, he was never headed.

Race one winner Giovanni Berton (Dinamic BMW) finished second, a late burst of speed seeing him barge his way past both Tonio Liuzzi and Sini in the last couple of laps. He ultimately finished just 0.4s shy of a second win.

His final points haul was enough to leave him second in the standings for the season.

Sini held on to finish third - his second podium in as many meetings - ahead of Romeo Ferraris Mercedes driver Liuzzi.

Max Mugelli (Dinamic BMW) rounded out his impressive weekend with fifth, while Thomas Biagi (Romeo Ferraris Mercedes) came from near the back of the grid to finish sixth.

As for Morbidelli, what looked to be an easy podium went begging when his RS5 seemed to lose power mid-way through the race, leaving him seventh by the finish.
