Silverstone PowerTour night race finale is dropped

The Silverstone night race finale of the 2001 PowerTour package has been ditched in favour of a daytime format on September 29/30

The event was to have been a showpiece for the package's flagship British GT Championship and one-make series - including TVR Tuscans, Porsche Cup and Ford Fiestas - that were scheduled to race under the floodlights at Silverstone.

PowerTour organisers British Motorsport Promoters have also clarified the format of the remainder of this season, after it announced last month that it will drop the PowerTour name for the 2002 season and review the whole package for the future.

Responsibility for the marketing of the remaining rounds has now been handed back to the individual circuits. The Rockingham (June 10), Castle Combe (June 24) and Knockhill (August 19) rounds will continue to feature the entertainment package of air/track displays, grid girls, etc - while the peripherals at the remaining events will be at the discretion of the circuit.

Series director Roger Etcell has stepped down from his role and John Taylor will take over the day-to-day running of the series. The other main elements of the package will take place as normal.
