Teenager Lando Norris captured his second championship success of 2016 after wrapping up the Formula Renault Eurocup title with a round to spare at Spa

Lando Norris wins 2016 Formula Renault Eurocup championship

Briton Norris, who secured the Toyota Racing Series title earlier in the year, headed to the penultimate round of the two-litre Eurocup season with a 39.5-point advantage over nearest rival Max Defourny.

He extended that championship lead with a third-place finish in the opening race at the Belgian circuit on Saturday as Defourny finished out of the points in 11th.

Norris started Sunday's second race from sixth, but was presented with the chance to wrap up the title when polesitter Defourny broke his front wing and dropped down the order in the opening laps, eventually heading to the pits.

The 16-year-old moved through the pack calmly thereafter and crossed the line in second behind Dorian Boccolacci, extending his lead to an unassailable 59 points with 50 on offer at the final event at Estoril in October to clinch the title at the first attempt.

Boccolacci's victory moved him into second in the standings ahead of Defourny and Briton Harrison Scott, who won three of the five previous races before a difficult event at Spa.

Norris also leads the Formula Renault NEC standings, and has a 48-point advantage over Defourny with 60 on offer at the final round at Hockenheim.
