Wallace to fill-in for Nadeau

NASCAR veteran Mike Wallace will drive for MB2 Motorsports in place of injured driver Jerry Nadeau until further notice, starting from The Winston all-star event this weekend

Nadeau was seriously injured in a crash during practice for the Winston Cup race at Richmond, Virginia last weekend, when his car spun into the wall during practice. The driver was airlifted to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center with still unspecified head, lung and rib injuries. As of Wednesday evening, Nadeau was listed in guarded, serious but stable condition.

Wallace has had a measure of success at various levels of stock car racing, and has made sporadic appearances at the premier Winston Cup level over the past ten years. The driver has raced twice in the series so far this year, with the highlight a ninth place finish in the Daytona 500 for James Finch.

"Mike has a vast amount of experience, and we're confident that he will do a great job," said MB2 general manager, Jay Frye. "This is a difficult time, and we are fortunate to have a veteran like Mike, who will help all of us get through it."

There is no word as to when, or whether, Nadeau will return to racing. "We're all hoping for a speedy recover for Jerry," said Wallace. "It's a very good, quality race team. I fully understand that I'm helping out on an interim basis. The goal is to keep this car in the points until Jerry comes back."

Wallace has driven for MB2 in the past, filling in for Nadeau's team-mate Johnny Benson when he suffered broken ribs in a crash at Richmond last year.
