Truex Jr Penalised over Gesture

NASCAR Busch series points leader Martin Truex Jr has been docked 25 points after an inappropriate gesture during last weekend's race at Richmond

Truex was penalized 25 driver championship points and fined 10,000 USD for an inappropriate gesture, because his actions were detrimental to stock car racing. He has also been placed on probation until December 31, 2005.

The deductions reduce both Truex's driver point total and team owner Teresa Earnhardt's owner point total from 3,956 to 3,931 and cuts his lead to Clint Bowyer to 69 points.

The gesture followed an incident with Mike Wallace which forced Truex Jr against the wall and round turns three and four on his side.

After leaving his car, Truex walked along the track in order to deliver an obscene hand gesture as Wallace drove back around the 0.75-mile track.

"I don't know, maybe he's blind," said Truex "We had a top-five run going and then that happened. It's just real disappointing."

Wallace said he didn't see the championship leader.

"I didn't know he was out there," Wallace said. "I was running the top of the track, and he got up there higher. I didn't know he was up there. I know he's upset and I'm sorry about it."
