Steve Park takes The Winston Open

Steve Park put the #1 Pennzoil Chevrolet Monte Carlo of DEI into The Winston. Starting 4th, based upon his 2nd place finish in the second No Bull 25 run on Friday night, Park didn't have far to go to get to the point

He did, however, have a determined Jimmy Spencer, who started 2nd after winning the second No Bull 25 qualifying race, to get around. Spencer and Park battled briefly. As Park dove to the inside of Spencer, the #26 Kmart Ford got loose and Spencer did an awesome job of keeping it out of the wall.

"This is our first win as a team," said Park. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Adam Petty, and I wish Kyle was here."

The only caution of the race waved on the first lap. Geoffrey Bodine's car got loose heading off Turn 4, with Dave Marcis following behind. Bodine tried to correct, bumped with Marcis, tried again to correct before hitting Marcis once more and going into a spin. Bodine's car slammed the front stretch wall, fire briefly erupted from the mangled sheetmetal before Bodine let the window net down. Marcis car was torn up and both drivers were finished for the night.

Jerry Nadeau, Ricky Craven, Jimmy Spencer and Ricky Rudd finished 2nd through fifth. These five drivers, along with the remainder of the field, move onto the No Bull Sprint 16-lap 'Suitcase race.' Only the winner of the last chance race will move to The Winston.

Park took possession of a check in the amount of $35,000 for his winning effort.

The green flag waved for the remaining 23 drivers looking to take the checkers for the final position in The Winston.

Jerry Nadeau took the last spot in The Winston, leaving Kevin Lepage to look forward to next weekend's Coca-Cola 600. Nadeau, who started ninth in the pack, was elated.

"I was a little worred when we took on four tires and I was back in ninth," said Nadeau, who won the first of the twin No Bull 25's qualifying races on Friday night. Nadeau received a check for $25,000 and will start 20th on the grid in The Winston.

In the 16-laps, two cautions waved on Laps 7 and again on Lap 11. Chad
Little was the first 'victim' of the dash for cash. He ping ponged off the wall after he and Wally Dallenbach made contact.

Mike Skinner was on a rail until he had problems with fishtailing and, in the process, put Elliott Sadler's #21 CITGO machine into the wall. Skinner headed for pit road with a flat, his last chance evaporated.

Bill Elliott and Mark Martin will lead the field of 20 to the green for the start of the three-segment $2 Million The Winston.
