Skinner, Benson to replace Mayfield
Following Jeremy Mayfield's immediate departure from Bill Davis Racing (BDR) to drive for Haas CNC, Mike Skinner and Johnny Benson have been announced as his replacement in the No. 36 Toyota Camry for the balance of the season
Skinner, who currently leads the championship in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in his BDR Toyota Tundra, will drive the No. 36 Camry this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway and again in two weeks time at Texas Motor Speedway.
Meanwhile Benson, who drives the No. 23 Toyota Tundra for BDR in the Truck Series, will take over from Skinner in the last two races of the Nextel Cup season, beginning at Phoenix International Raceway and finishing it out at Homestead.
"We wish Jeremy Mayfield the best of luck on his future endeavors," said team owner Bill Davis. "We appreciate the job he did for us this season and are glad he and Shana were a part of the Bill Davis Racing family.
"Jeremy is a very talented race-car driver and we all wish him nothing but success with Haas CNC Racing.
"Mike Skinner and Johnny Benson are seasoned veterans of the Nextel Cup Series and we are hopeful the skills and knowledge they both have acquired throughout their racing careers will help us to work toward getting the No. 36 team back on track for the reminder of this season and beyond."
Both Skinner and Benson will face the same situation that Mayfield went through until last weekend at Martinsville, having to qualify on time for the remaining four races.
Mayfield only qualified for 17 out of 32 races in the car, which is currently ranked 46th in the owner standings.
