Raines fined for throwing helmet

Raines' No. 33 KHI car was hit in the back by Gordon's No. 27 machine on lap 58 of the Roadloans.com 200, the former ending up crashing into the wall in turn two. Raines then threw his helmet at Gordon's Ford to show his anger when the field was circulating under caution a lap later.

"I clipped the 33 early in the race as we raced off turn four," Gordon said after the race, while accepting blame for the crash. "He got under me and I was going to drop down and follow him around slower cars so that I wouldn't lose more positions. I just clipped him as I dropped down."

DeLana Harvick, team owner for Raines' car has also been penalized 25 owner championship points. It was Raines' sixth race of the year in the No. 33 car, which has also been driven this season by Kevin Harvick, Tony Stewart, Ron Fellows and Cale Gale.

Robby Gordon himself was involved in a similar incident two years ago when he threw his helmet at Michael Waltrip's car after a clash during a Nextel Cup race at New Hampshire.

He was then fined US $25,000 plus US $10,000 for using improper language on TV while speaking about Waltrip, but he then auctioned the helmet and raised more than US $50,000, which he donated for victims of hurricanes in the US.
