Papis to attempt two Cup races in '08
Italian Max Papis is set to add even more international flavour to some of the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races after being confirmed by Phoenix Racing Inc as their driver for the two road-course events of next season
His team will compete in a part-time schedule in 2008, with veteran Sterling Marlin taking the wheel of the No. 09 Miccosukee Chevrolet Impala SS in seven Sprint Cup races, while Papis will drive the car at Infineon Raceway and Watkins Glen, where he will need to qualify on time.
Papis has competed thus far in four NASCAR Busch Series events, racing twice for McGill Motorsports in 2006, first at Watkins Glen where he also entered the Cup race for Furniture Row Racing but failed to qualify, and then at Texas.
This year he drove for Phoenix Racing at Montreal, where he finished third, and at Watkins Glen where he had an engine failure.
PRI has also confirmed that they will have engines supplied by Hendrick Motorsports, both for their Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series efforts. For the latter they have announced that Johnny Sauter, who raced in the Nextel Cup this year for Hass CNC Racing, will drive one of their two entries.
Papis will also be competing next year in the Nationwide Series, where he will drive for Rusty Wallace Racing in the three road-course events at Mexico, Montreal and Watkins Glen.
