No injuries in Jarrett pit crash

The jackman for Robert Yates Racing star Dale Jarrett was fortunate to escape serious injury in a bizarre incident during the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway when the 1999 Winston Cup champion spun while trying to pit under green

John Bryan was squeezed between the pit wall and Jarrett's Ford Taurus as the car snapped into a spin when its driver braked. The car also struck a tyre during the accident which bounced over the wall and hit a local newspaper photographer, Joe Krupa. Both men were taken to the Methodist Hospital situated at IMS and were released later with nothing more than "bumps and bruises."

"This is probably the worst day of my life," said Jarrett afterwards. "It's the most devastating thing I've ever been associated with, and it was just stupidity on my part.

"I didn't even care about the rest of the race. I had to finish it for the guys because they worked hard, but I couldn't have cared less. My thoughts were just, 'God, take care of John Bryan."
