Michigan: Jarrett beats Burton

Jarrett chased down the fading Jeff Burton with five laps to go, took the lead from Burton on Lap 196 (of 200), and coasted to a 2.3 second victory over Tony Stewart, who has finished first and second in the past two events.

Jarrett won for the fourth time at Michigan (he was second here in June) and for the third time in this race. It also marked his 30th career win.

Kevin Harvick was third, Burton fourth, and Mark Martin fifth.

Sterling Marlin again hung on to the points lead, by 43, after finishing sixth. The top four in points all finished in the top seven in the race, with Stewart and Martin finishing just ahead of Marlin and Jimmie Johnson in seventh, just behind.

The race showed no advantage for Chevrolet, despite the nose allowance granted two weeks ago for this event only. Harvick had the best Chevrolet, with Johnson seventh, Jeff Green ninth, and pole-winner Dale Earnhardt Jr 10th
