Matt Kenseth to race for Joe Gibbs Racing from 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup season

Matt Kenseth will race for Joe Gibbs Racing from 2013, the NASCAR Sprint Cup outfit announced on Tuesday

The 40-year-old will replace Joey Logano in the #20 Toyota.

Kenseth announced in June that he would leave Roush Fenway Racing, stating at the time that he had already signed a deal for next season.

The 2003 champion, also a two-time Daytona 500 winner, has been a Roush driver since 1999.

He said announcing his future would help him focus on the final 11 races of the 2012 title fight. Kenseth currently lies third overall, with the Chase to be set after this weekend's visit to Richmond.

"I'm excited to announce what the next chapter in my career will be," said Kenseth. "I remain totally committed to this season and working with my current team toward a championship and having this settled will only help my focus.

"JGR is an impressive organisation with tremendous leadership and strong support from sponsors.

"I'm very fortunate to have the opportunity to move from one great situation into another starting in 2013."

Team owner Joe Gibbs believes Kenseth's experience - alongside current drivers Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch he will be the team's oldest representative next season - will prove a valuable asset.

"Everyone knows what he [Kenseth] has accomplished in our sport as a champion and a consistent winner," Gibbs said.

"He is well respected in the garage and his experience and knowledge will be extremely beneficial to our entire organization, especially Denny and Kyle."

Team president JD Gibbs confirmed during a press conference on Tuesday that Logano will leave the team at the end of the season in order to pursue an opportunity with Penske Racing in the Cup series but an official announcement has yet to take place.

Current Nationwide Series champion Ricky Stenhouse Jr will replace Kenseth at Roush Fenway Racing next year.
