Martin Wins at Kansas

Mark Martin led a Roush 1-2-3 as he took victory in the Banquet 400 at Kansas Speedway

Martin took the lead around one-third distance to take his first victory in just over a year, and 35th of his career. Roush teammates Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards completed the top three places.

Points leader Tony Stewart finished fourth ahead of Matt Kenseth, who led the early part of the race. Jimmie Johnson and Rusty Wallace finished sixth and seventh to make it seven championship contenders in the top seven places.

What this meant was there was little change in the order in the Chase for the Championship. Tony Stewart continues to lead, though his lead over second-placed Ryan Newman has increased from four points to 75, giving Stewart a good break over all the other contenders.

However, the gap from Ryan Newman to eighth-placed Matt Kenseth is only 41 points, so although it may be hard to catch Stewart for the title, the battle for the rest of the places in the championship is very much alive.
