Logano to skip a few Nationwide races

NASCAR teenage sensation Joey Logano is set to miss at least the next two Nationwide Series races starting with this weekend's event at New Hampshire

Logano, who has competed in four Nationwide Series races to date, scoring a victory, two poles and a second place finish, will sit out a number of events and is initially scheduled return for the round to be held at Gateway International Raceway in three weeks.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver will miss these races due to sponsorship commitments from his team that require them running Tony Stewart in the No. 20 car, but also because NASCAR still has to authorize the 18-year-old to compete on the big ovals such as Daytona, where the series will compete in two weeks.

"Yeah, he's off," JGR president JD Gibbs confirmed. "If we would've known he was going to do as good as he has and as quickly as he has we might have run him in two of those three races.

"For us we're just going to pace ourselves, watch him grow. I think he's doing a great job. Hopefully we'll be with him for many years to come."

Although Logano is not expected to compete at Chicago in two weeks' time, Gibbs did not rule out that he could be back after Daytona, following a few busy days of testing and commitments with sponsors.

"For the next three weeks he is going to test and work and other stuff and then he's going to jump back in that No. 20 car and rock and roll the rest of the year," Gibbs added. "Either from Chicago or after that."
