Kyle Busch wins Lowe's Nationwide

Kyle Busch held off Jeff Burton on the final restart of the Dollar General 300 at Lowe's Motor Speedway, scoring his ninth Nationwide Series victory of the season

The winningest driver in NASCAR this year added yet another win to his tally, which now gets up to twenty trips to victory lane, adding his success from the Sprint Cup and Craftsman Truck Series.

Despite not looking as dominant as in previous occasions, he led the most laps during the race, most of them during the second half of a race that ended past midnight due to rain causing two red flags, which kept the field parked in the pits for more than an hour.

On the penultimate restart Busch seemed to brake at the last minute heading to the green flag, causing chaos behind him. But despite having received a previous warning for a similar move, he got away with it to lead the field again for the final three-lap sprint where he kept Burton under control.

"The car was phenomenal," Busch said after winning for the second time at Lowe's this year in the Nationwide series. "The car could go anywhere you wanted it to. I could run the top. I could run the bottom. I managed to stay on the bottom just so I didn't burn up the right front tire.

"Really want to thank the fans for sticking around tonight. I know it was a long show with the rain delays and whatnot. I'm glad they all hung out. And, of course, the ones on TV, as well."

Burton did his utmost to try to get his first Nationwide Series win of the season but couldn't do anything about Busch in the end. Brian Vickers recovered from a crash in qualifying to finish third, driving the No. 32 car for Braun Racing, the same Busch had taken to victory lane back in May.

"The way the impound deal works, when you wreck one in qualifying it's all you can do to get it ready for the race much less capable of running in the top-three," said Vickers. "I'm really proud of their effort there. It was a good top-three, but we obviously wanted that win. Considering the circumstances we'll take it."

Points' leader Clint Bowyer came home in a strong fourth place, which puts him closer to the Nationwide series title, while his main contender Carl Edwards finished right behind him in fifth place.

"Clint and those guys had the save of the year right there," said the reigning Nationwide Series champion. "I was getting real excited. I thought they were gonna keep running like they were, but they did a good job and they came back.

"My guys did a good job too with this car. I don't think anybody had anything for Kyle. That one time I got behind him and ran second and he took off and I couldn't see him anymore."

Kevin Harvick finished sixth and didn't show any sign of taking his off-track exchange with Edwards from Thursday into the race. Brad Keselowski was eighth behind Kelly Bires, who was the best of the Nationwide series regulars in seventh.

The race had plenty of incidents, adding up a total of thirteen caution periods. Among those hitting the wall was Joey Logano, who led the race early on but lost control of his car later while trying to overtake Dave Blaney.

"All of a sudden, I went outside to pass the 10 (Dave Blaney) and I have no idea what happened," said Logano, who still managed to finish fourteenth. "It felt like a big gust of wind took the nose right up into the wall or something. It was weird. After that, we just tried the best we could. That's one of the hardest things to do in racing."

Reigning Sprint Cup series champion Jimmie Johnson also took part in the race but fought a very loose car until finally losing it exciting turn two on lap 118. He spun, making contact with the inside wall and causing damage to the front and rear of his No. 5 JR Motorports Chevy.
