Kurt Busch supports Villeneuve debut
Kurt Busch has backed Jacques Villeneuve's Nextel Cup debut this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway saying he will hardly make the race different from what it normally has been at the 2.66-mile restrictor- plate track
The 2004 NASCAR Nextel Cup champion and current Chase contender has said that there could be probably a more progressive way for the Canadian to make his debut in the premiere division, but that he doesn't expect him to make things any different to what they normally are at Talladega.
"It seems like [Jacques] got those credentials and that access [to his Cup debut] very easy compared to what some other drivers have done in the past," Busch said. "They have to have a short track race usually, then you move to a mile racetrack or a mile and a half, and once you do that, then you bring an ARCA car to Daytona or Talladega.
"That would've been the right way to do it if I was Bill Davis Racing. But if you're right in the fire, that's how Jack Roush did with me when I first started, 'you go dude, see if you can sink to swim'... There are so many elements that are out of control here that I don't think throwing in another rookie has anything to do with any of it."
Villeneuve will probably not be the only rookie in the field for Sunday's Nextel Cup race at Talladega as former IRL and Indy 500 champion Sam Hornish Jr. will also be attempting to qualify for the race on Saturday driving the No. 06 Penske Racing Dodge.
