Kenseth's Kansas Pole

Matt Kenseth strengthened his chances to take his second Nextel Cup championship by taking pole position for Sunday's Banquet 400 at Kansas Speedway

Kenseth just edged out Elliott Sadler for pole position, with Jeff Gordon third fastest just ahead of Scott Wimmer and championship contender Carl Edwards. Kevin LePage and Denny Hamlin put in stronger performances than usual to line up next in sixth and seventh.

Next up are four Chasers, with Greg Biffle, points leader Tony Stewart, Kurt Busch and Ryan Newman filling eighth to eleventh places at the start.

Worst placed of the Chasers after qualifying is Rusty Wallace, who will start the race from 33rd position. However, he is not the only front runner near the rear of the field, with Jamie McMurray starting 30th, last week's winner Dale Jarrett 31st, Dale Earnhardt Jr 38th and Kasey Kahne 42nd.
