Joey Logano disgusted with fans' reaction to his Matt Kenseth clash

Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota driver Kenseth must sit out the next two Sprint Cup rounds as a punishment for taking Logano out of the Martinsville lead while running down the order following earlier contact with the other Penske Ford of Brad Keselowski.

Kenseth said the collision was retaliation for a tangle in Kansas in which Logano sent him into a spin while leading two weeks earlier.

Some sections of the Martinsville crowd cheered and applauded Kenseth after the clash, a response that disappointed Logano.

"Was I surprised to see the fans' reaction? Yes I was," said Logano. "I was disgusted by it.

"That was not what any racer would expect out of it.

"But the silver lining in it is that there are more fans that root for me now than ever before."

Kenseth was critical of Logano's attitude about their first collision and the lack of any contact from him to explain or apologise afterwards, but Logano dismissed any suggestion he had been arrogant.

"I don't think I'm an arrogant person," he said. "This is one of those situations where you have to be true to yourself."

Asked if in retrospect there was anything he would do differently, Logano replied: "No. I'm confident in the decisions that I've made as a driver and we've made as a team.

"What happened at Kansas was a racing thing.

"We had a great race for the lead, there were some blocks thrown and the third time I kept my nose in there. The way I view that personally is hard racing."

He said retaliating against Kenseth when they next raced each other was not on his agenda.

"I'll move forward," Logano said.

"Our goal when we get to the racetrack is to win the race. It's not revenge and taking someone out.

"You always look at the way people have raced you before and determine how you're going to race them. You have to be a student of the sport.

"But to consume yourself with that is completely different."
