Jarrett injury is only muscle tear, not rib breakage
Former NASCAR Winston Cup champion Dale Jarrett's injury sustained in qualifying at Charlotte has been downgraded from a broken rib to a muscle tear in his ribcage
Jarrett, who raced through the pain barrier to eighth place in last Sunday's Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte, was diagnosed as having a 'serratus anterior muscle tear' by a specialist on Tuesday. He will race at Dover this weekend with the aid of localised pain-relieving measures.
Meanwhile, Bobby Hamilton Jr will substitute for the injured Joe Nemechek at Dover. Nemechek broke his shoulder and elbow in a Busch Series crash at Dover and was substituted by Hamilton Jr at Charlotte last weekend.
The one-mile concrete Dover oval in Delaware, known as the 'Monster Mile', is regarded as one of the most physically demanding tracks on the NASCAR schedule.
