Hmiel Claims Texas Pole
Shane Hmiel has claimed the Busch pole from series rival Martin Truex Jr for the O'Reilly 300 at the Texas Motor Speedway
The pole is Hmiel's fourth, and was achieved with a lap around the 1.5 mile oval of 28.445 seconds, just three hundredths faster than Truex. Current points leader Carl Edwards was third, two hundredths back.
"That was the freest race car that I've ever qualified and not really messed up," Edwards said after the session. "It was fun, and I'm pretty excited about our chances on Saturday."
Kyle Busch, along with Shawna Robinson, crashed in qualifying and was unable to qualify for the race.
