Harvick on Pole at Richmond

Kevin Harvick is on pole position for Saturday night's Chevy Rock & Roll 400 at Richmond International Raceway

Harvick, who won Friday night's Busch race at Richmond, was just over a tenth of a mph faster than Greg Biffle, with Travis Kvapil in third, the three top places taken by three different makes, as Harvick presses to make the Chase for the Championship. Behind Kvapil is Biffle's teammates Mark Martin and Kurt Busch.

With this race being the last event before the Chase begins, there are still six drivers outside the top ten hoping to make it in to the Chase. Best placed of those in points and qualifying, apart from Harvick, are Jeff Gordon who qualified sixth and Ryan Newman in eighth. The others are Dale Jarrett in ninth, Joe Nemechek in eleventh and Elliott Sadler in nineteenth.

At the same time, there are four drivers currently in the top ten who are not yet confirmed for the Chase. In points standings order, Jeremy Mayfield qualified tenth, Carl Edwards eighteenth, Matt Kenseth thirteenth and Jamie McMurray 32nd, with McMurray only one point ahead of Newman and 30 ahead of Gordon before the race starts.
