Damage to Atlanta Speedway
NASCAR venue Atlanta Motor Speedway has been badly damaged by the remnants of a tropical storm
Tropical Storm Cindy, which caused two deaths as it crossed Georgia, ripped through the 125,000 seater-stadium causing a five-story scoring tower to collapse, and creating heavy damage to the some of the grandstands.
Other damage to the 1.54-mile oval included communication, light towers, suites and track signage.
Speedway president Ed Clark said: "The condo building and the whole track area got hit pretty hard. It's pretty extreme."
The full extent of the damage and cost of repairs is unknown, however the circuit's official website has stated that tickets remain on sale for the next NASCAR Nextel Cup race at the track, scheduled for the end of October.
