Biffle claims Busch title
Rookie Scott Wimmer pushed past race-long leader Greg Biffle on Lap 186 and won Saturday's Bashas 200 Busch Series race at Phoenix.
It was Wimmer's third win of the year, but third place was enough for Biffle to clinch the 2002 Busch Series title, becoming the first driver to win championships in Craftsman Trucks and Busch. He will move up to Winston Cup next year with Jack Roush.
Biffle came into Saturday's race with a 212-point lead over Jason Keller. He needed to finish only 28th or better in the final two races to sew up the title, and only 18th or better to bag it this weekend.
Biffle started on the pole and led straightaway, going 185 laps without a challenge until Wimmer began to threaten with 15 laps to go. Stacy Compton also got by Biffle at the end as the new champion's tyres began to fade.
Keller finished fourth and is 227 marks behind with only 185 at stake at Homestead next week. This is the fourth year in a row the Busch points race has been wrapped up before the season finale.
