Scott Pruett's season suffered a setback when his car failed a post-race inspection after Sunday's race at Sears Point.
The former Champ Car driver was docked 50 drivers points after officials discovered and illegal brake cooling device on his Cal Wells Racing Ford Taurus.
Crew chief Joe Garone was also fined $50,000 and car owner Cal Wells was docked 50 owners points.
Pruett will be hoping for a better weekend as the series heads to Florida for the Pepsi 400 at Daytona on Saturday.
