Superstars racer Nico Caldarola is set to switch cars to a brand-new Mercedes C63 AMG coupe for the next round of the series in September.
Caldarola, who runs the Roma Racing Team, and has raced the saloon version of the C63 AMG so far this year, gave his new machine its maiden test at the San Martino del Lago track in Italy and was happy with the results.
"We would have loved to make it debut earlier," said Caldarola. "But unfortunately some of the car's components, which were specifically built for the very first time, took more time than expected to be developed.
"The car has the same engine as the saloon, a 543-horsepower, 6.3-litre Mercedes AMG V8, but the real difference is in its chassis, which is stiffer and has a lower centre of gravity.
"Our goal is to race with this car in the next round of Superstars and we look forward to starting from a higher point in terms of performance compared to the four-door version."
The next round of the series is scheduled for September 16, although no venue has yet been confirmed, following the cancellation of the event at the Algarve circuit.
