Summary

Status: Stopped
Well that was certainly dramatic!

That's all for now, but do join us again on Sunday morning for a race in which we may get to see another bit of MotoGP history made.

One also has to wonder: with Dovizioso not looking like a threat just now, and the Yamahas looking very strong so far, will Marquez alter his usual mentality of trying to fight for the win if the chance is there?
Now, it's only qualifying. But, Marquez crashed while pushing to beat a laptime set by Quartararo. So is this another sign of the possible threat to his reign next season? Too early to say, but it can't be denied that the young rookie is certainly giving Marquez a bit more to think about these days.
Good day for Petrucci in the end. Came through Q1 and ended qualifying as the top Ducati runner. Hopefully this spells the end of his recent slump.
For Marquez to win the championship tomorrow, he needs to outscore Dovizioso by two points. The Ducati rider will start seventh and just doesn't look as strong as Marquez on long runs.
The marshals have managed to get Marquez's bike back to parc ferme. At least there's less work for Honda to do tonight than there was after FP1!

Those extra 500 revs for Quartararo won't have made much difference, but nevertheless he continues to vindicate Yamaha's decisions to offer him factory support. Remember, he was meant to campaign his rookie year on a 'B-spec' 2018 M1.
Replay shows Marquez was well out of shape going into Turn 5. Quartararo's spill was similar, though he was further into the corner.
Vinales pushes Marquez down to third, with Morbidelli heading row two ahead of Petrucci and Miller, while Dovizioso, Mir, Rossi, Rins, Pol Espargaro, Aleix Espargaro complete the top 12.
Despite going down at Turn 6, Quartararo takes pole! What a dramatic Q2!
Quartararo has crashed now!
Dovizioso only seventh.
Quartararo improves on provisional pole to a 1m29.719s. Surely that's it?
Marquez has crashed at Turn 5. That is qualifying over.
Quartararo is on another good lap, but there are red sectors coming from Marquez and Miller currently.
KTM's Espargaro's first lap puts him ahead of his brother Aleix in 11th.
Q1 graduate Petrucci improves to fifth.
Vinales hadn't actually been in. He's swapped bikes now, but will only get a lap with just over two minutes to go.
Quartararo lost the front going through Turn 1, but stays mounted. So this lap is gone.
Rossi follows Pol Espargaro and Marquez back out on circuit. Vinales improves yet again, but stays third.
Rossi has made it back to the Yamaha box. He's ninth currently in this session.
And he's exceeded track limits exiting Turn 11. Quartararo's time still stands with six minutes to go.
Vinales has lost a tenth through sector three. This is going to be close.
And Vinales is up on Quartararo's time through sector two.
Quartararo is back into his box. Vinales, meanwhile, is on a pretty solid effort right now.
Rossi has found himself a lift and his heading back to the pits to get his second bike. Replay of the crash shows the front just washing away at Turn 5.
Marquez misses out by 0.011s in second.
Quartararo sets a new lap record with a 1m29.920s to go fastest.
Rossi has crashed at Turn 5.
Marquez found a heap of time in the last sector to retake top spot with a 1m30.109s.
Quartararo goes up to second. Marquez is on another flyer.
Vinales moves ahead of him after his first lap with a 1m30.332s. Good start for the Yamaha rider. Petrucci up to third.
Marquez sets the benchmark at a 1m30.649s.
Aleix Espargaro has found himself a good reference in Dovizioso ahead of him, so keep an eye on the Aprilia rider. He followed Marquez to excellent effect at Aragon to secure fifth on the grid.
Marquez goes onto his first flying lap.
An interesting thing to note ahead of this session: Quartararo has been given the extra 500 revs his 2019-spec engines have been missing all season, which was done to conserve engine life across the year.
The fight for pole is GO!
