Here's our report for what was an exhilarating Italian Grand Prix at Mugello. See you in two weeks in Barcelona, for what will hopefully be more of the same.
Danilo Petrucci takes maiden MotoGP victory in thrilling Italian GP
Petrucci: "Yeah, it's unbelievable, in the best place of the world. I start to go on track and it's unbelievable because in front of my fans, in my hometown, it's unbelievable. Was a fantastic race. I cannot describe the feeling I have now because I have not recognised that I have won. Now when I jump on the podium I think I will realise.

"For sure I would like to thank my family, my friends, and all the people in Ducati. And also Andrea Dovizioso for helping me through the winter and this season. This win is for everyone who helped me."
Marquez: "Today we already say Thursday, but also we say yesterday, that today was time to defend - and we defend in the best way. We stay there, no panic, just try in the last lap. Unfortunately I miss the apex in the first corner, both overtook me. But Danilo today was the fastest one, he deserve the victory.

"My goal was to finish in front of Dovi, finish in front of Rins, in front of Valentino - we did, so I'm happy with these 20 points in Italy."
Dovizioso: "A long race, it was very difficult, we manage the grip because the temperature was so high, more than yesterday, so everybody struggle with the grip. But overall we have to be happy because we fight for the victory another time, this is good.

"Disappointed for the third position because we need more points, but am happy for Danilo because he deserves, he did a lot of effort in training, I'm happy for him and Ducati."
Prior to today, Danilo Petrucci hadn't won a race since 2011, at Algarve, in the European Superstock season finale - where he outpaced nearest rival Sylvain Barrier by eight seconds.

Championship standings after Mugello: 1 Marquez, 115; 2 Dovizioso, 103; 3 Rins, 88; 4 Petrucci, 82; 5 Rossi, 72.
Ducati was planning to leave its 2020 decision until after Barcelona. But, I mean, come on.

Petrucci's win won't have been possible without both Marquez and Dovizioso running ever-so-wide into San Donato on the final lap - but he was still very brave to commit down the inside of both and emerge ahead.
Race results: 1 Petrucci, 2 Marquez, 3 Dovizioso, 4 Rins, 5 Nakagami, 6 Vinales, 7 Pirro, 8 Crutchlow, 9 P Espargaro, 10 Quartararo, 11 A Espargaro, 12 Mir, 13 Lorenzo, 14 Abraham, 15 Iannone, 16 Oliveira, 17 Zarco.
Nakagami is a brilliant fifth, ahead of Vinales, Pirro, Crutchlow, Pol Espargaro and Quartararo.

Rins challenges Dovizioso into the final corner, but his Suzuki can never outdrag Dovi's Ducati, and he settles for fourth. What a race.
He can! Danilo Petrucci hangs on to win from Marc Marquez!
Petrucci will be ahead into the final corner, but can he hold off the slipstream?
Petrucci is just a couple of sectors away, but Marquez is keeping the pressure up.
But Petrucci is back ahead as they run three abreast through Turn 1! Marquez and Dovizioso nearly make contact as the reigning champion holds second place.
The head onto the final lap and Dovizioso slipstreams past Petrucci - but Marquez slipstreams past both!
Dovizioso and Marquez are giving Petrucci no room to breathe whatsoever.
Two laps left to run. This has already been an all-time classic. Petrucci keeps the lead this time, courtesy of a decent gap exiting Bucine.
Aleix Espargaro has passed Lorenzo for 11th, while Abraham is into the points past Oliveira and Zarco.
Dovizioso gets back ahead on the main straight, but Petrucci, super-late on the brakes, keeps the inside line and is back ahead exiting San Donato.
But there's no team orders here - Petrucci retakes the lead into Scarperia!
Petrucci will know that this is his best chance yet to win a MotoGP race. He will also know that, if he finishes second behind Dovizioso, that 2020 extension is as good as signed.
Next time around, Dovizioso succeeds where Marquez was failing, as he slipstreams past his factory team-mate to take the lead.

Five laps to go, Petrucci is hitting his marks out front - Marquez close that time by, but its baulked and ends up on the outside against Dovizioso at Turn 1, dropping to third place. Rins is hanging on.
Vinales overtakes Crutchlow for sixth place and sets out after Nakagami.
Seven laps remaining, it's down to Petrucci, Marquez, Dovizioso and Rins.
Vinales has passed Quartararo for what is now seventh place - but it's been a bad, bad race for Yamaha.
Petrucci is not managing to break away from his four pursuers just yet. But make that three pursuers - as his Ducati 2020 rival Jack Miller crashes out!
Syahrin has retired his Tech 3-run KTM RC16 in the pits. A shame, as this has easily been the best weekend of what has been a pretty wretched season for the Malaysian.
Current order: 1 Petrucci, 2 Marquez, 3 Dovizioso, 4 Rins, 5 Miller, 6 Crutchlow, 7 Nakagami, 8 Quartararo, 9 Vinales, 10 Pirro, 11 P Espargaro, 12 Lorenzo, 13 A Espargaro, 14 Mir, 15 Iannone, 16 Zarco, 17 Abraham, 18 Oliveira.
The lead group is down to five bikes now, having shaken off the likes of Crutchlow, Nakagami and Quartararo.
Heading into the final 10 laps of the race, Petrucci is starting to up the pace, as Marquez streaks past Dovizioso on the main straight.
Heartbreak for rookie Bagnaia! He's been putting together a strong race, but his priority was to finish - and finish he will not, having crashed out at Bucine. His bike is a smouldering wreck.

Rins back ahead of Marquez at Materassi, but is powerless to resist on the main straight once more. Petrucci pacing it out front.
Poor Rins! First place out of Bucini, yet down to fourth behind Petrucci, Dovizioso and Marquez by the time they all get to Turn 1.
