Summary

Status: Stopped
Well, that'll be a wrap for us from Assen, where MotoGP's best current rider won what could be one of the best races of its modern era.

It's really bad news for the championship, with Marquez 41 points clear and his beloved Sachsenring coming up, but if we're headed for a walkover instead of a proper title fight - well, what can you do? Marquez has earned it:
Assen MotoGP: Marquez wins after stunning fight
Championship standings (top 10): 1 Marquez, 140; 2 Rossi, 99; 3 Vinales, 93; 4 Zarco, 81; 5 Dovizioso, 79, 6 Crutchlow, 79; 7 Lorenzo, 75; 8 Petrucci, 81; 9 Iannone, 81; 10 Miller, 55.

Marquez: "Yeah, during the practice I was so comfortable, a good rhythm, but I already expect before the race that here would be difficult to open the gap, because the wind was so strong on the back straight, and yeah, the other ones catch the slipstream, was much easier.

"So then I decide to wait, but in that transition was a big fight. Fight with everybody, I think everybody have contact with everybody, was something that looked like Moto3.

"In the end I tried to push, I tried to manage the tyres, and the last four laps I give everything to open that small gap that give me the 25 points."

Rins: "Incredible. I have no words. Was a very difficult race, this morning I was feeling very sick on my stomach, but thanks to Clinica Mobile, and all the doctors, and for sure my team, and all the people who came here to support us, the race that was a very very fantastic race, and difficult."

Vinales: "Yeah, for sure I'm pleased - not pleased because I thought I could win, but anyway I got a problem on the arm, I could not stop the bike as I want, I get arm pump on the right side, was difficult, tricky race.

"I'm happy that the bike was on the level, we were on the level, and I was able to have fun on the bike again."
Rossi and Dovizioso exchanged a few words after the finish, after the latter ran the former out of road late on. Rossi didn't look all that agitated, mind.
Rins' second-place finish is the second podium of his MotoGP career, and Suzuki's best-ever finish at Assen. Bravo.
A low-key disaster for Dani Pedrosa there. He was only 11 seconds behind his teammate, which doesn't sound like that much, but at Assen it's the difference between P1 (25 championship points) and P15 (one point).
Finishing order: 1 Marquez; 2 Rins; 3 Vinales; 4 Dovizioso; 5 Rossi; 6 Crutchlow; 7 Lorenzo; 8 Zarco; 9 Bautista; 10 Miller; 11 Iannone; 12 P Espargaro; 13 A Espargaro; 14 Redding; 15 Pedrosa; 16 Rabat; 17 Smith; 18 Syahrin; 19 Nakagami; 20 Luthi.

DNFs: Petrucci, Simeon, Abraham.
Vianles shaking his head, shrugging at his onboard camera and doing what I can only interpret as a 'spinning' gesture. Acceleration issues as always?
Rins overtakes Vinales at Ramshoek for a career-best second place. The Yamaha man is back on the podium from Dovizioso, who fought off a late challenge from Rossi.
Well, they huffed and they puffed and they fought and they scrambled, and Marc Marquez has picked up the pieces. The Spaniard wins his second Dutch TT in brilliant fashion.
Final lap. Marquez has checked out. Vinales and Rins are fighting for second.
Marquez suddenly has a lead of 1.5s. Rins has taken third place from Dovizioso.
Dovizioso forces Rossi wide at Turn 1, Rossi shortcuts! Vinales is second.
Two laps to go, Rossi slides up on Dovizioso to set off after Marquez - but I think it's too late.
Or is it? He's running. He's really, really going for it. Half a second up on Dovizioso now.
Marquez takes a lead of three tenths over Dovizioso into the 24th lap of 26. He looks comfortable, but there's no way this is the end.
They're all still running together, but it's been a calmer lap than most, with only Rossi getting back through on Vinales.
Four laps to go. Andrea Iannone has picked up a two-second penalty for shortcutting. He's running 10th.
Vinales is back to third, and we have a six-bike group here for the win at Assen. Marquez, Dovizioso, Vinales, Rossi, Rins, Crutchlow.
Dovizioso, Rossi and Marquez go three-wide on the straight out of Turn 5! Marquez takes the lead round the outside.
New leader: Valentino Rossi. He's through on Dovizioso at the Timmer chicane, but it doesn't last - the Ducati is back through on the start-finish straight.
Marquez and Vinales run wide while battling! Dovizioso leads from Rossi!
Six laps to go. This is, no doubt, one of the very finest races any motorsport category will be putting on this year.
Running order: 1 Marquez; 2 Vinales; 3 Dovizioso; 4 Rossi; 5 Rins; 6 Lorenzo; 7 Crutchlow; 8 Zarco; 9 Bautista; 10 Iannone; 1 Miller; 12 Rabat; 13 P Espargaro; 14 A Espargaro; 15 Redding; 16 Pedrosa; 17 Smith; 18 Syahrin; 19 Nakagami; 20 Luthi.
Marquez overtakes Vinales to take the lead at Turn 1. Seven laps left to run.
Huge moment for Vinales, but he stays in the lead. We're now down to probably four victory contenders, as Vinales, Marquez, Dovizioso and Rossi run in formation.
New race leader - Maverick Vinales, picking off Dovizioso on the inside. Marquez is up to second.
Genuinely running out of time/breath to mention this, but the Rins/Marquez clash will lead to no further action. Rins has just passed Lorenzo at that very same Turn 5.
Rossi gets Lorenzo, who is struggling now. Vinales overtakes Marquez for second at Turn 1.
Marquez has retaken the spot from Vinales and then forced his way through on Lorenzo. Vinales has come along and is now up to third.
Petrucci has crashed out.
Dovizioso has held on to the lead, but Lorenzo is diving down the inside at every other corner.
Nine laps to go, Lorenzo and Dovizioso side by side over the start-finish line! Vinales overtakes Rossi and then gets ahead of Marquez for third.
Lorenzo back ahead of Marquez, so much for him fading then.
