Solutions for Williams and McLaren are on their own doorsteps

In recent years, Williams and McLaren have both developed highly successful off-shoot engineering businesses. But at the same time, the Formula 1 results for both squads have tailed off in a big way. MARK GALLAGHER asks if both teams might benefit if they look closer to home in a bid to fix their current slumps

You know the narrative. They are two of Formula 1's most successful teams - with 17 constructors' and 19 drivers' championships between them - yet neither have won the teams' title this century, and haven't won a race since 2012.

Twenty years ago, McLaren scored their eighth constructors' title, while Williams had just claimed back-to-back crowns in 1996 and '97. But the world has changed since then, old certainties have been washed away and new business models required.
