Rossi confident despite losing pole
Valentino Rossi shrugged off losing Catalunya Grand Prix pole position to his Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo, and says he feels in better shape than at any race so far this year
The reigning champion was quickest in practice yesterday and has made a breakthrough with his bike after two frustrating races at Le Mans and Mugello.
"I'm very happy with the way we've been working this weekend," Rossi told Italia1.
"I've been feeling good since yesterday on the bike, and I've been at the front at all times. We've worked very well this afternoon too: we've made some modifications to take better advantage of the soft tyre.
"There are still some small details to sort out, but we are competitive for tomorrow."
Although Lorenzo beat Rossi by 0.013s in the final moments of the session, the Italian said he was happy with his pace.
"The last lap was good," Rossi said. "I was quick, even though I lost pole position by a whisker. In any case I'm happy: it's a big step forward compared to the races we've done. I feel a lot better on the bike."
His only concern is the extremely hot weather that has greeted the riders this weekend.
"If it stays this hot, it will be really difficult to do 25 laps," he said.
