Nicky Hayden granted extra MotoGP test days after missing pre-season running

Nicky Hayden will get an additional MotoGP test later this week to make up for time he lost to injury during the winter

Nicky Hayden granted extra MotoGP test days after missing pre-season running

Ducati test rider Franco Battaini is doing three days of running at Mugello with the team's GP12 bike, and will be joined by Hayden on Wednesday and Thursday.

Hayden's 2012 build-up was disrupted by injuries sustained in a crash at the 2011 season finale at Valencia, a fall in training at Christmas, and surgery on lingering damage from the latter between the first and second winter tests.

A Ducati statement said the extra running this week would let Hayden "carry out set-up tests that he wasn't able to complete prior to the start of the 2012 season."

Hayden was Ducati's top rider in the first round of the 2012 championship in Qatar earlier this month, qualifying fifth and finishing sixth on a weekend when his factory team-mate Valentino Rossi struggled at the back of the prototype pack.
