MotoGP Sachsenring: Iannone fastest in FP1, Jorge Lorenzo crashes
Ducati rider Andrea Iannone topped a rain-hit first German Grand Prix practice session, in which MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo crashed heavily
Lorenzo was one of three riders to fall in cold conditions at Turn 11, Sachsenring's first right-hander following a sequence of seven left-hand corners, after losing the front end of his Yamaha.
Having been thrown through the gravel trap, Lorenzo got up looking at his left arm, but x-rays at the trackside clinica mobile cleared him of any fractures.
Lorenzo crashed approximately 20 minutes into the session, followed off the road immediately but independently by Aprilia rider Stefan Bradl.
Pramac Ducati's Scott Redding was the first rider to come to grief at Turn 11, about 10 minutes earlier.
Shortly after Lorenzo and Bradl crashed, light rain started to fall, essentially ending the session.
Before the rain, Iannone set the fastest time, his 1m23.702s lap 0.414 seconds faster than Honda's Marc Marquez.
Redding's team-mate Danilo Petrucci was third, ahead of Valentino Rossi, Andrea Dovizioso, Pol Espargaro, Maverick Vinales and Cal Crutchlow.
Lorenzo wound up 12th in the order, while Loris Baz returned from injury and turned three laps but did not set a time.
Running after the long rain delay was limited to a pair of installation laps for Alvaro Bautista on wet tyres, one for Crutchlow, while Bradl also completed a single tour in the final minute on his second bike.
