MotoGP rider Rabat returning to Barcelona after Sepang crash

Marc VDS Honda rider Tito Rabat will return to Barcelona after injuring his left knee and right wrist in a MotoGP testing crash on Tuesday

The Spaniard crashed at Turn 11 with just over one hour left in the second day of running at Sepang.

He was taken to the circuit medical centre, then to Hospital Putrajaya for x-rays and further examination on a lacerated left knee and fracture in his right wrist.

Rabat's slide across the track surface tore his leathers around his left knee, producing a deep wound and exposing bone, and also injured two toes on his left foot.

The 27-year-old will return to Europe on Tuesday evening for treatment at the Dexeus Clinic in Barcelona.

He will miss the final day of testing at Sepang, and work to be fit for the second test at Phillip Island from February 15.

"This is not the start to testing we were looking for, as Tito will not be able to ride tomorrow after his big crash at Turn 11 today," team principal Michael Bartholemy said.

"He is still in the hospital in Putrajaya undergoing a thorough examination, but what we know so far is that he has a lacerated left knee, injuries to two of the toes on his left foot and pain in his right wrist.

"Once these injuries have been fully assessed he will return to Europe for further treatment and rehabilitation."
