Misano MotoGP: Jorge Lorenzo flies for Yamaha in practice
Jorge Lorenzo set a blistering pace in the third MotoGP free practice session for the San Marino Grand Prix at Misano
The Yamaha rider's circuit record-beating lap from Friday had gone unbeaten until seven minutes left of the session, when Lorenzo set a 1m32.192s to move exactly seven tenths clear of Dani Pedrosa and the rest.
Marc Marquez cut that gap in the closing stages but had to settle for second place, 0.229 seconds adrift.
Valentino Rossi took third place with his final lap of the session, edging out Andrea Dovizioso by nine thousandths of a second.
All three factory Ducatis lifted themselves into the top 10 and therefore through to Q2 late on.
Michele Pirro took sixth behind Pedrosa on the additional third entry for this weekend, while Andrea Iannone claimed eighth.
Iannone's progress had been hampered earlier in the session when his bike belched out smoke, causing him to stop.
When he returned to action he set exactly the same time as Bradley Smith, another rider to move up into the top 10 in the closing stages.
The top 10 was completed by Pol Espargaro and Danilo Petrucci, with Pirro's last-minute flyer bumping Cal Crutchlow out of an automatic Q2 place.
Also needing to go through Q1 will be the Suzuki pairing of Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales and Marc VDS Honda man Scott Redding.
The Briton had got up to seventh place inside the final 10 minutes, but found himself pushed back to 14th by the end.
