Lorenzo accepts Bautista apology after admitting initial critcisim was 'overdone'

Jorge Lorenzo has accepted Alvaro Bautista's apology for causing the first corner crash in the Dutch TT, admitting his initial comments were exaggerated in the heat of the moment

The Yamaha rider was taken out by Bautista when the latter braked too late and lost the front of his Gresini Honda, sliding into the Spaniard in a move Lorenzo deemed "a complete disaster" immediately after the race.

Lorenzo labelled Bautista's subsequent penalty - which will force him to start from the back of the grid at this weekend's German Grand Prix - as inadequate.

"Starting the next race in last position is not enough to learn from...if we don't penalise the riders, they're going to do crazy things like Alvaro did today," Lorenzo said immediately after the race.

Lorenzo's stance has since softened however, with the championship leader admitting he "overdid" his censure.

"About the incident with Alvaro, I accept his apology, I'm not holding it against him," Lorenzo said on his Facebook page. "It was a mistake that I'm sure he won't repeat.

"As you know, in the heat of the moment you say things you wouldn't say when you cool down and yesterday I overdid it with what I said."

Lorenzo also revealed that he sprained ligaments and came close to fracturing an ankle in the crash, an injury that could have ruled him out of the Sachsenring race.

"I have a sprain of the tibioperoneal ligaments and underlying bone bruising," he explained. "I will be able to race in Germany, but according to the doctors I was very close to a suffering a fracture that would have left me out for two weeks..."
