Jack Miller to miss Brno MotoGP race as team prioritises recovery

Jack Miller will miss this weekend's MotoGP round at Brno as a result of back injuries sustained in a crash during warm-up for last weekend's Austrian Grand Prix

Marc VDS rider Miller, winner of the Dutch TT, crashed in the final session before the race at the Red Bull Ring on Sunday and was diagnosed with hairline fractures to his T6 vertebra and right wrist.

That accident ruled him out of last weekend's race and also cast doubt on his participation in the Czech Republic.

Miller was cleared to race by medical staff at the Brno circuit, but after consultation with Honda Racing Corporation and the Australian's management, the Marc VDS team withdrew Miller's entry to allow him time to recover.

"Jack is a racer, so he obviously wanted to race after being passed fit today," said team principal Michael Bartholemy.

"However, after discussions with both HRC and Jack's management team, we have made the decision to withdraw him from the Czech Grand Prix.

"For us it's more important that he has more time to recover from the crash in Austria, because we want him back to full fitness as soon as possible.

"Our priority is to have a fully fit rider back on the bike and that's why we made this decision."

Suzuki's Aleix Espargaro is expected to race this weekend, despite retiring from the Austrian GP due to the finger injuries he sustained in a practice crash last Friday.
