Ducati reveals radical new fairing for its 2017 MotoGP bike

The new-look bodywork, which is designed to compensate for the now-banned aerodynamic winglets devices that were a main feature in 2016, was trialled on Andrea Dovizioso's Desmosedici GP17 during Saturday's session at the Losail circuit.

Autosport confirmed that the manufacturer was bringing its new concept to Qatar, but Ducati waited until midway through the second day to reveal its design.

Its fairing is the most striking of the new concepts to have been revealed, and features a narrow central section combined with two outsize wings on either side.

Having pioneered the winglet concept in 2015, Ducati was the most vocal critic of MotoGP's decision to outlaw them.

Yamaha, Suzuki and Aprilia had all revealed their designs before the Qatar test, while Honda revealed its solution during Friday's first day of running.

World champion Marc Marquez crashed twice while using the new bodywork, and claimed it had been a factor in the first of his incidents.

Ducati's reveal leaves KTM as the only manufacturer yet to show how it will tackle the winglet ban, although the Austrian marque is allowed multiple changes of fairing through the year, unlike its rivals.
