Capirossi set for surgery after tangle

Loris Capirossi will require surgery to the little finger on his right hand following his tangle with Nicky Hayden at the start of the San Marino Grand Prix

The Suzuki rider was enraged by the incident, which took him just of the race before the second corner, and is concerned that the finger injury could jeopardise his participation in the next race at Aragon in a fortnight.

"I am very angry at what happened today because I was feeling very confident and the bike was good, so I thought we could have a competitive race," said Capirossi.

"Now I have to have an operation and I hope I can be back for Aragon."

But the Italian underlined that despite his frustration, his primary emotion following the race was sadness when he learned of the death of Shoya Tomizawa in the Moto2 event earlier in the day.

"This is nothing compared to what happened in the other race," said Capirossi.

"I want to send my condolences to Tomizawa's family, this is a great tragedy and something that you never like to hear about."

Hayden accepted responsibility for the incident with Capirossi.

"I really can't point the finger," said the Ducati rider. "At the time, I thought 'what was Loris doing?' We all went to open the gas and he didn't go anywhere.

"My feeling was something happened in front of him that I didn't see. But if you look at the video, it looks more my fault."
