Battered Pedrosa to sit out test

Dani Pedrosa will sit out today's post-race test at Catalunya to give his injuries more time to heal ahead of the Dutch TT in a fortnight

The Honda rider took a gallant sixth in yesterday's race, but had struggled all weekend with a fracture and other damage in his right leg and hip following two incidents at Mugello and a further crash in Barcelona qualifying.

"The doctors told me that this fracture needs time to heal so I'm going to rest as much as possible and see what the progress is for Assen," said Pedrosa.

"The team asked me not test tomorrow to give me the best chance to recover and it's a sensible decision."

The Spaniard said he was confident that it had been right to race at Catalunya despite the discomfort he was in.

"It's been a very hard weekend and I finished the race exhausted and in a lot of pain, but I don't regret being here this weekend trying to do my best," said Pedrosa.

"I didn't want to miss my home race and even though sixth position is not the best result in front of my fans, I'm happy with it. I could feel their enormous support during the whole weekend and it helped me a lot to race.

"It also wouldn't have been possible without the doctors' help. They kept me in the best possible condition to bear the pain. The injections I've had on each day worked, but obviously to do 25 laps it's been very hard."

Pedrosa's manager Alberto Puig said the race had taken a lot out of his rider, but he did not believe that Saturday's crash had exacerbated the situation.

"He managed to finish the race, but after the race he was completely destroyed," Puig told the official MotoGP website.

"The crash fortunately did not do big damage. It was a little bit in the same area, but it didn't make it worse. The thing is that the injury he is carrying is not completely healed. They told us it would take eight to ten weeks, and we only went for one and a half weeks so this is the way it is."

He also had no qualms about Pedrosa handing testing duties to his team-mate Andrea Dovizioso.

"If you want to test but you're not fast, it has no meaning. The doctors also recommended to us not to test," said Puig.
