LCR Honda rider Stefan Bradl has been ruled out for the rest of the Phillip Island MotoGP weekend due to the injury he suffered at Sepang.
The German fractured his ankle in a practice crash last weekend.
He underwent surgery in Malaysia on Monday in an effort to race in this weekend's Australian round.
Although Bradl was passed fit to compete in Friday morning practice at Phillip Island, he was only 20th fastest, 3.9 seconds off the pace.
After the session he underwent further medical checks and has been withdrawn from the event after consultation with MotoGP doctors.
"There was a very small chance for me to ride here and we knew it would have been much better in Japan but I wanted to try anyway," said Bradl.
"Of course it was painful and even the mobility of the ankle is not perfect yet.
"This is the reason why I have been declared unfit and I agree with them.
"I had injections and painkillers this morning but I was too slow on the track and this is too risky for me and also for the other riders."
