125cc: Smith fit to race in Germany

Bradley Smith has been given the all-clear to compete in this weekend's Sachsenring race, a fortnight after sustaining leg injuries at Assen

The Repsol Honda 125cc rider was struck by Andrea Iannone after his bike suffered a mechanical problem and slowed in the opening practice session at the Dutch track.

But after a positive result from an MRI scan last week, Smith has been informed that he is fit enough to race in Germany.

"I had an MRI scan in Barcelona which showed just a crack to the tibia, which was big relief," Smith said.

"The doctor said I can race and so we'll get to Germany and give it a go. The doctor also said I was extremely lucky not to damage my cruciate ligaments.

"I was so disappointed not to ride in Holland but I was very lucky not to be more seriously injured and I'm just putting it all behind me and concentrating on the race at the Sachsenring where I finished 12th last year."

The 16-year-old Briton remains ninth in the 125cc standings despite missing Assen.
