Moto2: Locatelli undergoes facial surgery
Italian rider Roberto Locatelli continued with his recovery following his massive accident at Jerez, undergoing successful facial surgery on Monday
The operation, which lasted around three hours, included restoring the jawbone's and cheekbone's physiological positions through the use of plaques and screws.
Locatelli's mouth will remain shut for about 10 days, and he will be fed through liquids.
"The rider was operated on today by Dr. Roberto Cocchi and his team at Bellaria hospital in Bologna to reduce the fracture on his jawbone, with the insertion of a metal plaque, and his lower jaw, with metal plaque and four screws," Clinica Mobile's Dr. Claudio Costa was quoted as saying by Gazzetta dello Sport.
Costa said he hopes to be able to send Locatelli home for Easter, and then take him to Imola to work on the fractures on the ankle and knee.
Locatelli was visited at the hospital by fellow rider Andrea Dovizioso, while Max Biaggi sent him his greetings from the Donington WSBK grid, a race Locatelli reportedly watched from his hospital bed.
