Moto2: De Angelis retains Donington pole
Alex de Angelis resisted championship leader Jorge Lorenzo to secure pole position for the 250cc British Grand Prix at Donington Park
After dominating yesterday's wet first qualifying session, de Angelis was able to remain on top in the dry despite a concerted challenge from Lorenzo.
The reigning champion and points leader repeatedly edged closer to de Angelis, but every time he did so the Italian was able to find an additional improvement and restore his margin of superiority.
Both improved again on their final laps, with de Angelis pulling away to take pole by nearly half a second over Lorenzo.
Julian Simon took third, ahead of Alvaro Bautista, Mika Kallio and Andrea Dovizioso.
Marco Simoncelli had held second early on - potential Gilera's best starting position of the season - but was eventually edged back to seventh.
