Moto2: Bautista fastest in first qualifying
Alvaro Bautista grabbed provisional pole position for the 250cc race in Turkey with a late surge up in the order in the closing moments of the session
Reigning champion and current points leader Jorge Lorenzo had looked set to continue his domination of the 2007 series by taking another pole, as he was over a second clear of the field as the end of the session approached.
But in the final minutes Bautista and Andrea Dovizioso made great progress and managed to push Lorenzo back to third.
Dovizioso, Lorenzo and Alex de Angelis had earlier swapped provisional pole several times in the opening half of the 45-minute session.
De Angelis ended up fourth, ahead of Julian Simon, Mika Kallio, Hector Barbera and Hiroshi Aoyama, who had held second place for with five minutes to go before other riders' improvements suffled him down the field.
