Moto2: Barbera grabs second straight pole

Hector Barbera took his second consecutive 250cc pole position of 2009 during qualifying for the Dutch GP at Assen, having lapped the classic circuit in 1m40.019s

The Spanish Aprilia rider may have been deposed from his position by his countryman and factory rider Alvaro Bautista, whose last lap looked good to challenge until he ran up behind Barbera and seemed to lose time.

So Barbera it was who took the pole, having taken the top spot halfway through the session and then improved his lap time near the end.

Hiroshi Aoyama, who was on top of the times on the Scot Honda for the first half of the session, was second fastest, with Bautista eventually third.

Reigning champion Marco Simoncelli was fourth fastest on the Gilera ahead of Aleix Espargaro, who did exceptionally well as he jumped on the vacated Balatonring Aprilia seat after Gabor Talmacsi moved up to the MotoGP class.

Alex Debon was sixth ahead of Raffaele de Rosa, Mattia Pasini, Mike di Meglio and Lukas Pesek.

American Steve Bonsey had the biggest incident of the session, crashing his Aprilia at the final chicane en route to 18th position. He got up from the crash but then collapsed at the side of the track before eventually walking away from the scene holding his side. It is unclear whether he is injured if at all.
