Autosport 70th Anniversary special issue out now

Hamilton continues to set new records in Formula 1, but success is no longer the only thing that motivates him. In an interview with Autosport's Grand Prix Editor Alex Kalinauckas, the Mercedes star opens up about what he really wants his legacy to be.

The theme of the standalone special is 'The Greatest'. Some now consider Hamilton to be the greatest racing driver ever, so we've put him up against the sport's other legends to see how he stacks up.

The one-off special, marking seven decades since Autosport magazine launched in August 1950, also picks out some of the greatest cars and events in motorsport history. It covers the impressive breadth of the sport, from F1 to club racing via sportscars, rallying and touring cars.

There are interviews with legendary motorsport figures throughout, including Le Mans legend Tom Kristensen, nine-time World Rally champion Sebastien Loeb and arguably the most important player in American motorsport: Roger Penske. We also got British Touring Car giants Colin Turkington and Andy Rouse together to compare notes on their illustrious tin-top careers.

Our winners from the Greatest Car podcast series get six-page features. We've spoken to some of the key drivers, designers and team members to tell the stories of the machines that set new standards in their fields.

The UK national racing scene is also featured, with an article by Marcus Pye on the important roles that Cooper and Van Diemen played in the junior single-seater industry, a look back at some of the sport's most interesting and colourful characters, and a history of the 750 Formula, a championship as old as Autosport.

The 70th celebration includes some stunning photography from the Motorsport Images archive, as well as Giorgio Piola illustrations of the Mercedes W11, which secured the record-breaking seventh consecutive F1 constructors' crown for the pacesetting squad.
