Wilson eager to discover oval form

Justin Wilson says he is eager to find out if he can also be a frontrunner on ovals with Dreyer & Reinbold following his strong start to the IndyCar season

The Briton is currently fourth in the championship, having taking runner-up finishes in St Petersburg and Long Beach.

He has not previously had the equipment to fight for oval wins in the IndyCar Series - although he took a podium at the Milwaukee Mile during his Champ Car career - but is optimistic that will change with Dreyer & Reinbold, as its strongest performances tended to be on ovals in recent years.

"I'm looking forward to Kansas and seeing what the Dreyer & Reinbold car is like on an oval," said Wilson.

"From what I remember last year, they were pretty strong. I'm looking forward to working with them, and seeing if we can move our championship along. Obviously after that we have Indy, so hopefully, we can learn something at Kansas that will help us for Indy."

Dreyer & Reinbold's technical chief Larry Curry is highly-rated for his oval expertise, and Wilson thinks he will gain a huge amount of knowledge from Curry.

"Larry has a lot of experience and done this for years and he's seen it all," said Wilson. "It's good to have him working with myself and also working with [engineer] Matt [Curry].

"We have a really good combination and I'm looking forward to learning from them on the ovals. That's their background. My background is road racing and theirs is on the ovals. I think all in all we have a mix between the three of us and that is what has [helped us] being so competitive this year."

The IndyCar Series is about to embark on a run of oval events, with the May 1 Kansas event followed by the Indianapolis 500, Texas and Iowa.
