Will Power leads all-Penske top four in Long Beach IndyCar practice

Will Power topped the third IndyCar practice session around the streets of Long Beach in an all Team Penske top four

Penske pair Juan Pablo Montoya and Power had topped a practice session each on Friday, before the Australian finished Saturday morning practice quickest.

Power rolled out a trio of timesheet-topping laps, going fastest with a 1m07.2310s, before shaving off 0.2 seconds and concluding with a quickest time of 1m06.8892s.

Championship leader Simon Pagenaud finished the session 0.2270s behind Power, ahead of fellow Penske runners Helio Castroneves and Montoya.

The Turn 9 at the end of the back straight caught a number of drivers out throughout the 45-minute session.

Ryan Hunter-Reay was the first victim thanks to a bump in the braking zone. The uneven surface unsettled his Andretti Dallara-Honda nine minutes in, resulting in contact from the rear with the tyre barrier and prompting the session's first red flag.

Alexander Rossi then fell foul of the tricky corner, but rescued the car before it made contact with the wall. He was followed shortly by Conor Daly having to use the run-off area after carrying too much speed into the turn.

Graham Rahal brought the red flags out again with just three minutes remaining when he ran wide at the same turn and collected the concrete wall.

The session was extended by three minutes after the red flag but no drivers were able to improve.

Mikhail Aleshin finished highest of the Honda-powered Dallaras - the Schmidt Peterson driver lapping 0.5057s down on Power, while Rahal managed a time quick enough for sixth before his shunt.

Josef Newgarden, James Hinchcliffe, Sebastien Bourdais and 2015 Long Beach winner Scott Dixon rounded out the top 10.
